Getting a better nights sleep is part of the January Health Challenge for The Sweet-16.

1. Move during the day. Having a regular exercise schedule will help with anxiety, stress and a busy mind, making it easier to get a good nights rest in the evening. Make sure you schedule your activity at least 2 hours before bed, so that your body has time to use up the post work out energy.
2. Take a warm bath. The heat will relax you and loosen your muscles, allowing for a better nights sleep. Use essential oils to calm and meditate you.
3. Slip into comfortable pajamas. Pick something that is not too tight or constricting, but ones that won't bunch up and tug when you move.
4. Set the temperature. Make sure your home's temperature stays at a between 65-73 to keep optimized sleeping temperature.
5. Create a comfortable environment. Leave your bedroom for only bedroom activities. Invest in a good mattress, splurge on nice sheets, use white noise,......whatever you need to have a good nights sleep is worth the investment.
6. Unplug. Turn off the T.V., the laptop, the ipads and cell phones. Try to unplug an hour before bed, so that your mind has time to quiet down and unplug as well.
7. Journal or read before bed. A good way to end the day is to write in a gratitude journal. It's a good way to quiet your mind and to chronicle your day.
8. Go to bed at the same time each night. This will create a shut down habit in your brain, making it easier to fall asleep.
9. Limit your caffeine intake after 3;00pm. Doing this will help keep your body on it's natural sleep cycle.
10. Listen to relaxing music. Instead of falling asleep to the T.V. try listening to relaxing music or sounds instead.

Today starts the first Sweet-16 challenge. This month we will be focusing on our health. I don't know about you, but 2015 was a doozy for me, health wise. I was in and out of Dr.s offices, I tried a dozen different treatments and medications, and then ended up having two major surgeries within just a few months of each other. I spent TOO much time, in bed watching Netflix. (Pretty Little Liars, Gilmore Girls, Parenthood and The Originals were my past time.) I missed a lot of life and doing what I liked doing.
This year I want to be in control of my body, not the other way around. I know that there are some things I can't help, and I'm still figuring out all that ails me, but for the most part, I am feeling much better and stronger, and I want to keep it that way!
So January's focus will be to get/be/stay healthy. We will start a habit that we can continue all year long that will help us feeling our best, so that we can be our best.
SLEEP
Commit to going to bed at the same time each night, and waking up at the same time each morning. By keeping a regular sleep schedule, it will help dramatically with the quality of your sleep. Your brain will be trained when to shut off, so less laying in bed at night trying to fall asleep AND by waking up at the same time, your body will become used to it, and you will no longer struggle with the snooze button.
WATER
Drinking enough water during the day is vital to our health. We all know we need to drink more, but we still struggle to do it. This month commit to drinking more water each day. This one thing will help you FEEL better more than any other thing you could do.
REST
Research shows that mental breaks increase productivity and encourage creativity. Moments of rest also allow you to keep a sense of self and helps in motivating you to stay focused on your goals.
Taking time each day to rest and reset will actually help you to accomplish more than if you try to just plow through. This month make a goal to have a deliberate resting period each day.
MOVE
Get up and do something. You will sleep better, you will have more energy and will be able to focus that energy better by being active. You can decide to work out at the gym or train for a marathon.
Moving can be something as simple as deciding to go on a bike ride with your kids or taking a walk in the morning. It really doesn't matter how you move, just do it. This month make a habit out of moving and focus on how this helps your sleep, your attitude and how your body embraces it.
FOOD
We all know that you are what you eat. This month commit to being aware of what is going into your body, and how it makes you feel. Commit to eating a breakfast full of protein, this one habit will set the stage for more energy in your day. Cut out sodas, add more fruits or vegetables. The key to this challenge is to be in tune with how food effects you, and make the necessary changes to get more out of your day. By using food as fuel instead of a friend, activity, or an emotional crutch you will start to feel like you can do anything.
I will be posting tips and motivation on instagram and facebook, so make sure you follow me. And join the challenge. Be a supportive member and let me know what you are doing. We can do this together!
Let's start off our year feeling good, so that we can tackle our dreams!
Here's to a Sweet-16!
I have had this idea in the works for a LONG time, but with my health and everything else in life, my ideas usually stay in my head. I was determined to get this one out to share with others, and I wanted it ready for the new year.
Well, here it is, 5 days in, and I'm still trying to figure it out! I almost wanted to just throw in the towel, because I figured it was too late now. After all, my goal was to have this be something you can work on at the start of each month, and obviously, that didn't happen. So why do it?
I have to START somewhere, sometime and with something. So, ...... better late than never!
So what is the Sweet-Me Sweet-16? The idea behind this is to have something to focus on each month to help make 2016 the Sweetest year yet! This is the concept I use in my Sweet-Me work book that I am STILL writing. My book has a focus a week, where as the Sweet-Me Sweet-16 is a monthly focus. I am hoping that we can form a community to support and encourage each other on our journey to Sweet-Me. I have found that I do better with my goals when I have a supportive tribe backing me up!
This year I am striving to be in control of my body, my happiness and my life. I am going to START living my life to my true potential.
Join Me!!!
I have chosen a word to focus on throughout the year since 2012. I love this idea from Ali Edwards and I encourage you to try it to too.
This year I had a few words picked out that I was trying to pick through. And then I finally picked my word. I had picked the word COURAGE. I was set to that. I made up a printable, I was picking quotes. I was excited.
Then, BAM! New Years morning I woke up and I could not get the word "START" out of my mind. I tried, I already had my word picked out,............but my word picked me.
So my year for 2016 is START!!!

I want to START my mornings off right!
I want to START embracing each day.
I want to START being brave.
I want to START living my life.
I want to START really working to make my dreams a reality.
I think one of the hardest things for me is starting! I have lots of dreams and ideas. I have lots of love and good intentions. I want to step out of my box and be adventurous. But I have a hard time doing it. I just need to start!
I need to let go of the thinking that everything needs to be in order for me to start. I can start on a Monday or a Thursday. I can start after I've failed. I can start over and over again. I just need to START!
What is your One Little Word of the year!?
We are changing things up around here!
After some awesome feedback from my customers, I have decided to change the terms of ordering.
When I first designed these bracelets I wanted them to go along with my book. My book will focus on a word, a quote and questions to help you to gain direction and understand your purpose in certain aspects of your life. So my thought was, to make these bracelets, with a focus on a word and a quote, to wear to help remind yourself of your goals. And of course, I am all about giving, so I thought, how fun would it be to give one to your sister, your Mom, your daughter, a friend.
That is how I came up with the "One word. Two Bracelets. $30."
It's been a few months, and I have done some research and talked with customers and have decided to go in a little bit of a different direction. The thought is still the same, but instead of getting two of the same bracelets, you can now pick two bracelets of any style!!!! I have realized that while the "STRONG" bracelet may be one that fits with your life right now, the "DISCOVER" bracelet might be just what your best friend needs.
Or, you could always order two that YOU need in your life right now. They are too cute to pass up!
Now on to the Holiday news!
As a special gift to you, I am offering TWO BRACELETS for $24.99. That's $5 off. Offer good through Saturday, December 12th.
I am passionate about keeping a gratitude journal. This little obsession of mine started about 9 years ago.
I had three kids, my husband just started a company in a new state, we were buying our first home and life seemed to be working itself out.
But then it, almost over night, life seemed to get messy. It seemed like none of our plans were working. My husbands business was slowing down. The financing on our home wasn't working the way we needed it to. I was lonely in a state where I didn't know anyone. My Husband was gone all the time, trying to make ends meet, and I was alone with three cranky kids ALL THE TIME!
Our life seemed uncertain, and we were really just going day by day, hoping something would work out.
One night, I was inspired to dig out my journal and read it. I was hoping to read of better times, and regain hope, and have courage to keep moving forward knowing it would all be okay.
But as I was reading my journal, I noticed a trend. 1.) I didn't write in my journal very often! There would be months, even a year, between entries! 2.) I didn't write about better times. Almost all of my entries were about trials I was struggling with.
I realized that I used my journal as an outlet, to vent, and to try to figure out how to deal with hard times. That wasn't a bad thing, but it made me sad to think that my children would read that one day, and not KNOW how happy there Mom was. That my personal thoughts and feelings were of worry and of heartache, not of hope and joy.
I decided right then and there, that I needed to keep a gratitude journal.
I don't want to hide my trials, and to not have this outlet to write what I'm dealing with. Not at all. I figure things out as I pour my heart out. And I want my children to know that they are not the only ones that have trials. BUT, I wanted to to turn my struggles into blessings. The only way I could think to do that was to write down what I was thankful for.
So I started writing a list of five things each night that I was grateful for.
Sometimes it was easy. My heart was full and I could have listed a thousand things.
Other days it was hard. My day was long. My day was difficult.
Then I started to realize that on hard days, I wouldn't try to over think it. I would just write down things that I was grateful for in THAT moment.
One day I wrote :
Socks
lip gloss
hugs
pj's
baths
I don't know what I was dealing with that day, but I have a feeling, I just wanted to feel cozy after my long day!
As the years went on, I started writing down more detailed gratitude lists:
"I'm grateful that today when I volunteered at the School I got a text from Jason. We got into a tiff this morning, and I am grateful that he is so forgiving."
"I'm grateful that tonight at dinner time I kept asking B. for help. I could tell something was wrong, and after awhile being stuck with me in the kitchen, he told me about his day, and I was able to listen and hopefully help to cheer him up."
Now when I look back on my gratitude journal, I see a pattern.
I am blessed. And taking the time each day to reflect on my blessing has made me much more content with my life, even when things seem a little crazy!
I am a true believer that the more gratitude you give, the more happiness you will have.
I am happy! It's hard to get down on myself, my situation, my life, my circumstance when I take the time to reflect EACH day on how much I truly have!
